We, Virginia Baja Racing SAE, are a group of undergraduate students at the University of Virginia who are passionate about automotive design and racing. We come together every year to design, build, and race an open-wheel offroad racecar inspired by the Class 1 Buggies competing in the Baja 1000. The year culminates in multiple International Baja competitions sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Each Baja competition has its own unique events and all provide an immense challenge to hundreds of Baja teams worldwide. Completely student run and operated, the Virginia Baja Team is one where anything is possible. Engineers apply their studies in ways they wouldn’t be able to otherwise, learning creative and mechanical skills. The club however isn’t comprised only of engineers and anyone is welcome to join, build, and drive. Based at Milton Field a few miles from the University, the Baja Shop has all the tools necessary to create the cars and the Test Track allows testing and racing at anytime.
